2010 Issues...

February - Volume 4 - Issue 2

Terror by Night: The True Story of the Brutal Texas Murder That Destroyed a Family, Restored One Man's Faith, and . .I would like to thank everyone for their wonderful comments last month about the new "look" for Writer's Block. And now that you are all visiting the blog to read each month's issue, I do hope you will become one of my "followers" as well.

Last month was a test run. I was hoping to get this month's news out sooner, but things happen. I did decide, however, to post everything as a draft first, so I could then send you all the links at one time. That said, let's get on with the news!

Cane and AbleI have some interesting reviews coming up. Some of you may not know, but I review for Bookpleasures.com, New Leaf Press and now, Kathy Carlton Willis Communications (which I will abbreviate to KCWC in future references). Last spring I reviewed a true crime story, "Terror by Night" for them. This time they're sending me another true crime story, "Apparent Danger". So be sure to watch for that upcoming review in a couple of months.

I have another interesting book on the way that I'll be reviewing for Bookpleasures, "The Sallie House Haunting". It's also a true story. I have a fascination in the paranormal. I just couldn't resist that one!

Apparent Danger: The Pastor of America s First Megachurch and the Texas Murder Trial of the Decade in the 1920sSitting in front of me now is "Cane and Able" by Stephen Cheek and "A Very Dangerous Woman" by Sherry H. Penney and James D. Livingston. The latter is about Martha Wright and the women's rights movement and Mr. Livingston is an actual decendant of Martha Wright. I'm not much of a history buff, but in this case the information provided about the book struck my thirst.

I guess you could say that though I do have my preferences in what I like to read, I also have an open mind to reading anything else that "strikes me". I'm usually right when I go with my gut instinct and thoroughly enjoy pursuing those other avenues.

A Very Dangerous Woman: Martha Wright and Women's RightsOnce again, I would like to stress to my readers and fans that I do not take any personal book reviews anymore because I'm already committed to so many others. I'm hoping that one day, when I retire (ha!) I'll have more time to read. As it stands right now, I have so much on my agenda, I barely have time to write anymore! Egads! And I have 3 books on my agenda for this year that I desperately need to attend to if I'm to get them out for you this year! Prayer please :)

Okay, moving along... I have an interview to share with you this month that I'm sure you'll love - Introducing Lisa Lickel! So be sure to check that one out! I'll be posting it and this newsletter at the same time this month. Next month watch for my interview with Carlynn, author of "Angels in the Landfill". Check out my review!

Angels in the Landfill: Mixed Blessings and Saving GracesDon't forget that VAJ is now a kindle blog and you can subscribe to it for your kindle! And if you haven't already joined up with Books in Sync, I highly recommend you do. Theodocia works extremely hard in getting your information out to the public. She's wonderful in that she really tries to focus on each author individually and to help get their web presence out there. If you haven't put your printed books into kindle or e-books yet, then check in with Richie over at the EBookSale today! Richie can get your books into both formats and he'll get your e-books into many online stores that you could not. He has a tremendous amount of resources available and does a fine job!
The Sallie House Haunting: A True StoryAnd on a more personal basis, my sister is here until tomorrow. She and her hubby flew in from Georgia to celebrate our dad's 85th birthday yesterday. And we surprised him! Literally! He was expecting me to come to his house and spend a couple of hours with him. And actually, I was supposed to with sis & hubby right behind me, but our little diabetic dog took a bad spell and I had to stay home. However, sis & hubby were there right on time. Dad was in the living room and heard someone in the kitchen so he went in and saw two people coming into the house. He walked up to my sister and said, "Who are you?" This was not due to senility, folks. He just hadn't seen her in a very long time and was expecting me, so he was truly surprised!

Visual Arts JunctionNow provided there are no plane delays due to the rain, sleet, snow and ice hitting us at the present moment, they'll be back home in comfy Georgia tomorrow evening. But I have a feeling they could be here a day longer...

Okay, I guess that covers January and February up to today so until next month, God Bless and stay cozy warm!
